Python Software Engineer

Contract Opportunity

Houston, TX 77002 *local candidates only*

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop custom applications, application integration with existing systems.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and debug existing applications.
  • Effectively research, analyze and resolve complex issues.
  • Contribute to and maintain code standards and best practices.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system / application administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources.
  • Apply application patches and upgrades on a regular basis.
  • Manage and maintain the accessibility of systems for clients. Work closely with clients to resolve any availability or efficiency issues.
  • Maintain system equipment by developing and maintaining reports, logs, charts, and diagrams based on application system uptime, availability, and usage.
  • Administer application systems. Perform daily basic administrative task and duties to ensure quality performance.
  • Build automation tools and frameworks for on-demand deployment environments, infrastructure provisioning, and service management
  • Other Duties as assigned


Minimum Years of Experience Required (can be more):

  • 8+ years developing commercial grade applications using Python
  • Git: 1 year
  • Python: 8+ years
  • JavaScript: 3+ years
  • CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Azure DevOps a plus): 2+ Years


Key Qualifications:

  • Writes highly readable, maintainable, and elegant code
  • Plays nice with source control (git, tfs, svn, etc.)
  • Writes tests, uses a debugger, and understands PEP-8
  • Knows the importance of refactoring code and how to perform it within Python
  • Smart, strong work ethic, enthusiastic, driven, and gets things done
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and ability to work in a team environment
  • Understands and applies design patterns for code design and maintenance
  • Solid software engineering and data engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience/interest in DevOps, testing, deployment, support
  • Superior ability to troubleshoot system issues.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical colleagues.
  • TDD and Designed for Automation is the goal!
  • Eat, sleep, drink, serve Python all day! Linux is life!
  • Own, manage, design and integrate countless 3rd party APIs
  • Proficiency with C/C++, .NET C#, Python, or Java
  • Experience with working in an Agile/Scrum team that delivers value on a sprint cadence


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with micro-services, pub-sub, and frameworks like Kafka, Redis, RabbitMQ
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure platform
  • ServiceNow Development experience


Technologies Used:

  • Languages: Python, JavaScript, Shell Scripts
  • Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure Platform, On prem systems management via REST API
  • OS: Linux/Unix (OS X), Windows, Other systems using CLI (F5, Cisco Switches etc)
  • CI/CD: Azure DevOps Pipelines
  • VCS: Azure DevOps Pipelines (Git)


Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
